On Friday, May 28, 2021, U.S. Army Captain Scott R. Alwin was inducted into the Hall of Heroes at William S. Middleton Memorial Veteran’s Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.
Inductees are selected based on their service to their country in conflicts or wartimes, as well as military decorations for valor, heroism, and/or specific combat actions. The Hall of Heroes is an ongoing program for formal recognition of valor during a Veteran’s service to the United States of America.
Born and raised in Wisconsin, Captain Alwin served five tours in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot predominantly flying gunships. With 136 documented Air Medals, Vietnam Republic Medals, Purple Hearts, Bronze Stars, Silver Stars, and Distinguished Flying Crosses, all with oak leaf clusters, he is believed to be the most highly decorated American pilot of the Vietnam War.
Distinguished guests attending the induction included Captain Alwin’s wife, their children and grandchildren, along with several of his siblings and their families.
